Biography

Ron Decker was born in Ship Cove, on Newfoundland's Northern Peninsula, Canada. He now resides and works in Halifax, Nova Scotia. In the early 1980's he studied commercial art at The College of Trades & Technology, in St. John's, Newfoundland. He later obtained a Graphic Design Certificate and spent many years working in the sign industry until 1995, when he devoted his talents to a lifelong passion of painting wildlife and landscape art.

Ron has incorporated his talents with the experiences of growing up on Canada's North Atlantic coast, and has uniquely captured some of nature's most treasured moments. The scenic beauty of Atlantic Canada's lakes, rivers, ocean and abundant wildlife have been the inspiration for his paintings. Three of his works can be found as reproductions in framing galleries throughout North America.

Awards and Accomplishments:

Ron's work has received National recognition this year. A recent piece titled "Eagle on North Mountain" was chosen as a Limited Edition Stamp for the Canadian Wildlife Conservation Fund. The stamp will be representing Nova Scotia and is due out in August 2000.

Ron recently received another major endorsement for his ability to capture the essence of his vision in his artwork. The province of Newfoundland and Labrador has commissioned Ron for a Painting to commemorate the Grand Opening of the Viking Grand Encampment, which is being reconstructed as part of the "Viking l000 years!" celebrations this summer. Many dignitaries from Europe will be present as well as the Prime Minister of Canada and the Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, the Honorable Brian Tobin. Ron has donated all the proceeds of a Limited Edition Print to the Viking Trail Tourism Association.

One of the 9 winning entries in the Ducks Unlimited Canada 2001 Art Print Portfolio was "Winter Whiteout" by Nova Scotia's Ron Decker (The only Atlantic Canadian winner). The Ducks Unlimited Print & Stamp program is considered one of Canada's premier Wildlife Art Competitions. There were over 315 submissions from the country's top wildlife artists so being chosen among the top 9 is a great accomplishment.
