It really comes down to the vibe, texture, and how you plan to use them—both options are total rockstars on their own:

  • Coated Business Cards: Get a protective sealant layered over the paper. It locks in the ink, protects against daily wear and tear, makes rich colours and photography pop with extra vibrancy, and gives the card a smooth, polished finish.

  • Uncoated Business Cards: Leave the heavy paper stock completely raw with no added coating, letting the natural, organic texture of the paper fibres shine through. They offer a glare-free, tactile feel and are the absolute best choice if you need to write anything on the printed material If you want more saturated graphics and maximum ink protection, go coated. If you want a natural feel you can write on, go uncoated.
Coated business cards feature a smooth, sealed outer layer. Because the ink can't seep deep into the cardstock, the colours stay bright, rich, and true to your digital design while adding a protective barrier against smudges, scuffs, and daily wear in wallets or cardholders.
Choosing coating on one side leaves the back of your card unsealed, making it effortless to write on with a pen or pencil—ideal for appointment cards, personal notes, or loyalty stamps. Choosing coating on both sides provides complete edge-to-edge protection and a uniform, vibrant finish on both front and back.
Coated surfaces are designed to seal against liquids and smudges, meaning standard gel or ballpoint pens may smudge on the coated side. If you need to write on your business cards, we recommend opting for coating on one side so the back remains writable, or selecting a fully uncoated business card.
